All Showered Up

That's right, folks. I'm finally getting around to documenting my baby showers... Thought I should get on that before the baby is actually born. I had two wonderful baby showers, one in California, the other in Colorado. The one in California was hosted by my sisters-in-law Autumn and Liz, and funded by the lovely and talented Mom. The one in Colorado was hosted by my friends from my ward, Cassa Fox and Lori Troxel. Boy, oh boy, did I make out like a bandit! Michael will be one well-clothed baby, I'll tell you that much! Here are a few pictures and some of my favorite things about the showers.

January 29, 2010 - Lewis Home - Grand Junction, CO

The cake for the Grand Junction shower was made by Lori Troxel. This shower was fishing-themed and Lori was in charge of the decorations. SO CUTE! The invitations were fabric fish with a cute rhyming note inside. Lori is actually starting a 'party in a box' business that furnishes all the decorations and plans for a party for the host/ess. Cassa was in charge of the food and games, which were also AMAZING. She made the cute fruit pizza you see in the pictures with the letter "M" on it. We played a birth trivia game and a "steal-the-clothespin-if-you-say-the-word-baby" game. One of my favorite things about this shower was the "pearls of wisdom" that we did at the end, after opening gifts. Each woman that came to my shower took a turn telling me a pearl of wisdom about being a mother or taking care of a baby, or any kind of good womanly advice. Each person strung a pearl bead onto a bracelet for me as they gave their advice, and at the end I had a cute bracelet to remind me of all the wise counsel. It was very touching.

You might notice a bunch of onesies pinned along a clothesline in the collage below. That was another activity at the shower. The ladies all decorated plain-colored onesies with whatever design they wanted, using permanent fabric markers. At the end, I chose a winner and I got to keep all the clothes for Michael!

The California shower had a HUGE turnout. Wow, did I feel loved. We had a fun time running errands to get ready for the party, picking up food and balloons, making a table display for the food table, and decorating cookies. Michael got a lot of clothes from that shower too, which I absolutely LOVED, but also got some fun unique gifts like a fashionable labor gown from LaborLooks (my friend's company), a tooth-fairy box, a homemade nursing cover, and hand-crocheted hat and hand-warmers.

We made designs on the cookies (my favorite being the fishing pole, pictured below -- that one was for you, Kevin!) and there was a bunch of other yummy food like meatballs, cream puffs, and sweet bread (called senorita bread) from a Filipino bakery in Vallejo... My mouth still waters. Thanks so much everyone for all the help and support you've given me in preparing for motherhood!

I'm 39 weeks today, and not much of anything has been happening with my uterus, so don't expect an early baby! My mom is coming to Grand Junction to stay with me on Tuesday, so she'll make it in plenty of time. For anyone wondering, I'm still feeling A-O-K and I sleep 9-10 hours a night, mostly uninterrupted. Better enjoy that now, while I still can, huh?

What a great post! I love when I can feel I'm a part of it just from the details, the feelings and the people involved. And the photos. When I first read the title of your post, I thought, "Oh, my goodness! Michael's coming early and Jamie's getting showered and ready to deliver." What? That's what I used to do to get ready to have a baby!

Wow, super cute shower in CO too! Awesome! Those are really cute games/activities, and that cake is awesome! Looks like your friends there also know how to throw a party! Hey, your friend who's starting a party in a box business may wanna look at my friend's blog: http://mycreativestirrings.blogspot.com/
Do you remember my friend Thomas Orsak from my freshman ward who served in our mission? It's his wife's. She does SUPER cute creative and seemingly cheap party decorations. (And there's all kinds of date ideas, it's crazy ridiculously adorable and creative.)

They're mostly kids parties so they may not give your friend any ideas she wouldn't already come up with on her own, but I figure you never know right? ;)

I can't believe how soon you can deliver and how close I live to you! I plan on coming in March for sure! I think I'm too booked up till then to be able to come out any earlier. I also figure, though it'd be fun to come when your mom's there, it might be nice to have help after she's left?

Anyhow, I'll be in contact. Uhh...little long ya think? Hah, of course it is...

how fun! your baby showers looked so fun! I need an address from you girlie! email me at janabrookes@yahoo.com

i bet your momma CANNOT wait! i'm excited for both of you. your gonna LOVE being a mom! i'm very impressed that you are still able to sleep that long!

i know you probably don't need any more advice, but some really good advice someone gave me at a shower for logan that has stuck with me all this time is, don't ever take other mother's advice too seriously. i just think it's so true, cause only you will know your baby and his needs. you'll be such a great mom! so that's my two cents in case you were just dying for it!

i agree with sherry, next post should be "micheal's here!" good luck jamie!

Looks like you and Michael are receiving lots of love! I CANNOT believe you still get 9-10 hours of sleep at night. I thought that was unheard of in the last month of pregnancy. I guess you're made to have 10 kids :-D I can't wait to see some pictures of him. Good Luck!

Your CO shower looks like it was so fun. I love the onsies idea and the pearls of wisdom, two things I hadn't heard of before. I should tell my shower-throwing friends about those. I usually just let people throw showers at my house and they do all the work. Well, I have to clean the house, you know. See you soon!
