DC and Richmond

A little late, but here are some highlights from our recent visit to DC. I had a four-day weekend off from work so I flew out to the east coast. My dad is doing a 2-month stint for his job in Greenbelt, Maryland and Kevypoo and I thought this might be an opportune time for the two of them to meet. My dad was checking out the Air and Space Museum when Kevin and I called him to meet up. We headed to some gardens and my dad and Kevin reveled in their respective nerdiness -- discussing the colony collapse of bees and my dad's research involving that, as well as the various "flora and fauna" (if you will) surrounding us there. I like to take pictures with the timer on my camera. In this picture of the three of us on the bench, I had just run and plopped myself between my two men before the camera went off. I'm in a handsome sandwich!

Here's dad getting a good calf stretch. Aaah, yeah. Something is really catching the interest of these two. I think it's a plant.

Kevin and my dad got along great... An important question was asked during this trip, and an important answer was given.

Our breakfast on Saturday morning with my good friends Kim and Ashley (Ashley is wearing her invisibility cloak) at the Silver Diner. I had caramel french toast... my favorite. YUM.

The we headed up to Great Falls where there were falls.... great ones. Kevypoo brought his trusty bird guide with him and entertained us, Park Ranger style :) I think he's trying to tickle me in this picture.... or show people where my rectus abdominis muscle is.

National Geographic ran into us on the trip and asked Kevin if he would pose for an ad they're doing about their "Birds of North America" field guide. Isn't he a great model?

Here's my dad doing a little modeling of his own. "I want attitude, Greg. Give it to me. YES! More!"

Ok, you can say it... We're a cute couple. Go ahead. Kevin was showing us the plethora of Great Blue Herons out on the rocks. My dad kept calling them cranes. I think it was annoying Kevin but he wouldn't say anything. (kidding)

A piece of snakeskin... Now Kevin can repair that hole in his snakeskin pants. I can't believe how lucky we were to find this!

Our hike around Great Falls was more like a tame walk through a strip mall. We didn't even break a sweat and it was probably 90+ degrees outside. Maybe I'm exaggerating. You'll never know. But anyway, we were just happy to be together and stopped to pose for about 1200 pictures, always in the same position: stuck together.

They're thinking about getting ready to jump over the edge. I told them not to. They are still alive today because of my sensible nature.

My friend the baby caterpillar. "He shall be called Squishy. I will name him Squishy and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy." My dad said he looked like a booger on my finger.

This was near the end of our "hike" where we posed again for a photo-op. We love each other so much that we are actually glowing. Do you see it?

We had some other fun adventures while in the area, including visiting with Scott and Cherie's family, getting our eyes examined by the family optometrist (thanks, Scott!), catching up with a good friend of mine and her fiance and meeting their french bulldog puppies, going out to eat with Jake, Jackie and Stephanie, and taking a romantic walk down by the James River amidst the fireflies. Check out the countdown at the bottom of our blog for the next rendezvous. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Great post! Do we see some e.n.g.a.g.e.m.e.n.t. pictures among these? (Shhhh. The letters are disguised by extra punctuation in case you were trying to keep this a secret. Only the most perceptive will have a clue as to my meaning.)

I love you. You're hilarious.

Here's some code in return: "T.h:e; r'i;n]g i:s- i'n t(h*e c'a}p[a;b.l,e h^a'n[d,s o'f K'e=v)i.n a'n*d s[h+o.u,l'd b}e t,r]a'n.s"f-e]r.r)e,d t+o J'a.m_i"e's u-p]o:n t*h+e\i>r n'e?x,t m(e}e.t"i;n-g"

That took a really long time to type. Whew.

First of all, Jamie, You RULE! What an awesome post by an amazing girl. How did you know your dad's comments about the "cranes" were annoying me? J/k

Second, it's funny that you asked that question, Nicea! I asked her dad an important question, but not her....yet. Ironically, the ring came the day after she left, and is currently in my pocket....

Ha, ha, ha...

Yes, imagine the laughter in the previous comment as an evil laughter, such as that of Dr Evil himself.

Took me a long time to decode your message. JUST KIDDING! NO SECRETS ABOUT YOU TWO!!!! Which is a really GOOD thing. So, the next meeting is when again.?

Kevin--I actually figured out the question you asked her dad. And just to show you how astute I really am, I did it without even seeing the first two pictures of Jamie's post. (For some reason they hadn't popped up until just now. Subtle. And so FUNNY!!) As for e.n.g.a.g.e.m.e.n.t. pictures, well, that would answer the question, "Wow! How did you guys get your engagement pics taken so fast when you're on opposite sides of the country?)

Especially when you're trying to keep all this on the down low.

Just so you know how on the "down low" it all is, Kevin called me M*).O%@.M(. on the phone the other day. I also have a plane ticket for August to meet Jamie in UT to go shopping for some sort of dress. I think she said white.

And I think I have a lunch window shopping appointment in the near future with Kev's new other(M*o:m} to ck out some good places for a party!

Annie, Will it take me an eternity to fiqure out Jamie's hidden word messages? Not, that I am 'bitter', maybe a bit gullible as I thought Kevin was really going to be in a National Geographic magazine!

Great post Jamie!

Awww – look at my baby brother all grown up and getting arried-may (too tired to comment in code so I hope pig-latin is disguise enough). I loved everything about this post!! One of Maggie’s nicknames is Squishy – I didn’t think you guys would have a squishy of your own for at least another year & ½ or so. :)

Annie, what is countdown timer? Another code? If it is, you're really good! I don't get it.

Jamie said...

Nicea, have you ever scrolled to the VERY bottom of our blog? That's the countdown timer. It tells you when Kevin and I will be together again. Only 5 days!!!

Yeah for you! This was a great post. And I definitely think that you should either include a snake skin, and/or a squishy caterpillar in your E%N#G!A&G)E@M*E^N$T{ photo!! That would be awesome. We would really like to see some pics of the R*I(N@G# when your dr. evil soon to be F&I!A$N?C$E) decides to give it to you. Sheesh, you were right, it is hard to type in such secret code. Looks like you had a great time! Have fun on your next meetin' with your man!

You sure are sitting between a handsome panini:)
Have a fun time during this next get together.
Please be sure to show us all a picture of 'the' ring if your man gets down on his knee to ya. Your count down is getting close to the end again.
He sure is a looker!
