Martha Stewart Time

Here's a project that was a long time in the making that I recently finished. I got the idea from a Martha Stewart magazine I bought for 25 cents at a garage sale. My friend Cassa and I pooled our resources and did some serious design on a dime. We're so proud of ourselves.

It started with some fabric (also purchased at a garage sale for around $1-$2/yd), dead sticks from Cassa's M.I.L's back yard, and some acrylic paint we already had on hand. We hand-painted our sticks, which took forever, but since we already had the paint, why buy a can of spray paint? We cut our flower shapes out of fabric and then bought some fabric stiffener from Michael's as well as flower pips (the wire part in the middle of the flower).

Here's a close-up of one of my flowers. After they were stiffened, I colored on them with some of my colored pencils and then super-glued them strategically onto the branches.

The glass vases were a Good Will find, under $2. We painted the inside with acrylic paints and we also made stripes on the glass with Armor Etch (glass etching cream -- thanks again, Martha!) but the etching is hard to see. If I did it again, I'd either paint it or etch it but not both.

My wedding album, also from Michael's on a 40% off sale. I filled it with some of our favorite wedding photos. The last thing I need for this display is one of those small decorative easels to prop up the photo album with. For now, it's on top of the black box that my wedding proofs came in. And, put it all together with the canister light above...

Ta da!

One corner of my house is decorated. Now I have about fifteen walls that need some attention. Hmm... And you wonder why I don't have a bunch of pictures of my house up yet? It still looks a lot like it did before we moved in. I'll just have to do these little mini transformation moments. Up next: hopefully something in the nursery!

I love how you decorated the focal point. What a brilliant idea and to do it so economically!
The flowers turned out great. So artistically done.
I am looking forward to seeing the nursery:)
A good friend + garage sale = success and fun!

This is truly even more beautiful in person. 'Exquisite' is the word I'd use to describe the beautiful art work that Ms Martha Stewart Jamie accomplished.
She has her talents hanging elsewhere that was quite impressive.
She also can cook! She made a heavenly Cafe Rio like, but 'taste EVEN BETTER' dinner. Hmmm...
Sorry we will miss you when you come our way today.
